Whenever we come across weight loss techniques, it involves diet plans with strict restrictions on food. What if I say to you, “you can eat whatever you want to have for all 3 meals of the day, and still, you can reduce or maintain weight”. Interesting, right? In this post, I will explain why it works and also, convince you that it is not as easy as it sounds.
As mentioned in the post “11 thoughts to 11 goals“, one of my 11 goals is to maintain a healthy body; to balance the body mass index (BMI) at a normal range. For those who are not aware of the body mass index, it is a number that indicates whether you are underweight, overweight or normal. Let us ignore the calculation behind the number as it is not important. Another simple technique, an equivalent of BMI, I would suggest is to compare the last 2 digits of your height in centimetre with weight in kilogram. For example, if you are 175 cm tall, then you should weigh approximately 75 kg to be considered normal. 5% is the upper and lower range. If you weigh 71.25 kg, you are normal at the lower range, and if you weigh 78.75 kg, you are normal at the upper range. Anything below or above will lead to underweight or overweight.
Being healthy is not only my goal, it is a universal goal. We have many adages and axioms to highlight the importance of health. Few are as follows:
A sound mind in a sound body
Greek Philosopher, Thales
Health is Wealth
American Philosopher, Ralph Waldo
You need a wall to showcase your painting
Indian proverb from the Tamil language – Here, wall refers to our body; painting refers to our desires.
As you see, people from different parts of the world acknowledge that health is the building block of human life. However, many of us are not paying close attention to it. Major health problems occur as a result of being overweight or obese. Obesity is the extreme version of overweight. As per World Health Organisation (WHO), in 2016, 1.9 billion adults and 340 million children were overweight. Well, it’s a huge number! Therefore, we need to figure out a way to reduce weight; and maintain a normal body mass index.
For a moment, ignore all the complicated ideas you have heard so far in your life to reduce weight. Let me give a simple solution! Just have 3 meals regularly with whatever you want to eat. Of course, I am not underestimating the other techniques and suggestions to lose weight. They have their science behind them. However, my suggestion also works. How does it work?
First, you should clearly understand the statement. If you want to read it again, please look at it.
Just have 3 meals a day with whatever you want to eat/drink with no cap on quantity.
You are allowed to eat only 3 times a day; not any other times of the day. Second, you should not eat snacks or drink beverages of any kind between meals. Remember, you are entitled to have only 3 meals in a day with an exception of water. Third, you should plan the content of your meal by trial and error method in such a way that it should provide sufficient energy until the next meal.
I am sure you are now beginning to understand the inner message. For example, if you want to have ice-creams, milkshakes, candies, chocolates, oily foods, alcohol etc. you can have it along with any of your meals. However, you should restrain yourself from not taking any food or drink until the next meal. I practice it whenever I see myself gaining weight. It works! For everyone’s benefit, I am maintaining a normal BMI for years now following this method.
On one hand, we feel happy as we get to eat or drink all the items. On the other hand, however, we cannot overdo any of the stuff as we need to maintain our bare minimum energy till the next meal.
For a week, you will select the food by trial and error method. Afterwards, you will arrive at the balance of healthy and favourite foods.
In summary, limit your appetite to only 3 meals a day; avoid snacks or beverages in-between the meals except for water. Eat well and have variety when you have the meals.
Thanks for reading the full article. I believe you have got a new diet idea to try at your home. Happy eating, and have a healthy life! See you in the next post!
